It shows that the f4 has more contrast than 200 prime f2.8... at the same aperture which I think is weird.

Looks real sharp! Looks like the new IS might be a worthy upgrade...I want to get a new lens(I don't like saving money ), and was debating between 135mm 2.0 "L", 200mm 2.8 "L", 70-200mm 2.8, or 500mm FD "L"w/converter :D etc....now you got me thinking f/4 IS. My only thing is, I have the 100-400mm, and don't like over lapping lenses especially expensive ones. I should just save for a 2.8 tank

Even after your initial (and quite impressive) comment about the f/4 vs. f/2.8 you're STILL going to ask for help with lens selection?! It would seem by your comments that you have everything well under control with your lenses. Good luck with that.

I'm beginning to re-think my 70-200 F/4L purchase and if I made a mistake, I mean look at that 100% crop! It's dead sharp! I'll just go to sleep tonight thinking he got the sharpest copy in the world and all the other copies are no sharper then my 70-200 F/4L, although this is probably untrue. Haha.

I doubt you did. You still got a very fine lens.

the F4 70-200 is as sharp but you just gotta keep the shutter speed up without the IS.

No, like said above the 70-200 f/4 is an AWESOME lens, especially considering the price. Just get out there and enjoy it, you made a great purchase!

Hehe, yeah, I guess. What's the slowest you can shoot at WITH IS? Whatever telephoto for wild life I get will probably have IS, so I'm curious. I realise at 400mm or 300mm it's much harder to shoot at similiar shutter speeds as at 100 or 200mm, but at 200mm for example how slow can must of you go with is? I seem to have pretty steady hands as I was able to get a shot w/o blur at 1/6 sec with my 70-200 at 200mm handheld, but I think I might have just gotten lucky.

I think you were lucky! Or maybe seriously skilled...
Supposedly the IS on the 70-200 f4 can go 4 stops if you hold it.

Congrats on the lens, Ed. If your cat shots are any indication, Canon's got a winner on their hands.
