Hi,

I am leaving for Las Vegas today and want to take pics at night of water shows and lights. The problem is that I haven't got a tripod. I will be using Canon S3 IS for the shots. Can u ppl please suggest ways and settings to take nice shots???...I dont want to miss or mess up anything  ...

Thanks for taking out time to look.

Chander

Getting a tripod, even a cheap one, would be the best way of achieving several second exposures that are not out of focus. Failing this, try and find a wall to sit your camera on and make the camera as stable as possible. Set it to timer mode and compose the shot, then press the trigger and don't touch until the photo has been taken. You could also try reading the ultimate exposure computer (external link) that will explain and give a number of exposure settings. Good luck. :)

I had good luck with a simple monopod, when I was there. With IS, that combo should work really well for you. At high ISO, though.

Just don't try to take the monopod up the Stratosphere. Security considered it a weapon!

Canon Digital Rebel, and a bag full of stuff.

What aperture values, shutter speed and ISO speeds are best for this? Should i shoot in Aperture Priotity (Av) of Shutter Priority (Tv) mode?

If you don't have a tripod, put the camera on your car with a bag to set it on. Put it on 1 second, at least shutter. Then play with it. I would normally use a tripod and a release. Self-timer may work as well.
