A very simple composition Anders, but with the "star" light, and the light reflection on the water, the photo works very nicely.

That's the kind of picture that leaves the typical viewer asking "but what is it?!?". For that, I love it.

And it looks so peaceful.

Thanks guys! :)

No filter, the star comes from closing the aperture a bit, f/8 in this case.

Cool pic, thanks for sharing! I like how you can just make out some of the stars.

I can't help but wondering what this pic would have looked like with a GND filter...

I never thought of using one in the dark!

Photographs are records of life. Pity they don't make music when you put them in a record player. :p

Thanks again! :)

montreal: I considered combining two exposures, one for the moon and one for the landscape, but I was cold and in a hurry to get home. It's been suggested at another site that the picture needs the "star" for interest as the composition is rather simple and there is no foreground interest like for instance driftwood or a big rock. The shot is made by the star and the reflection in the water I think. I may well try again though, your suggestion of using a GND filter is interesting, I have never though of one for night shots either.

Chris: There's not much to tell really. I shot this as I saw it, the only thing I've done is play with the white balance to enhance the blue color. I also used Neatimage to reduce the noise somewhat as there was some noise from ISO800. I used high ISO to get the shutter speed I wanted, I think using a longer exposure time is partly what made the moon's reflections look the way it does. A shorter time would have produced a narrower light streak, because of the longer time the swell created a broader reflection.
