Love the shot. You've created a great mood here.

Thanks again! :)

montreal: I considered combining two exposures, one for the moon and one for the landscape, but I was cold and in a hurry to get home. It's been suggested at another site that the picture needs the "star" for interest as the composition is rather simple and there is no foreground interest like for instance driftwood or a big rock. The shot is made by the star and the reflection in the water I think. I may well try again though, your suggestion of using a GND filter is interesting, I have never though of one for night shots either.

Chris: There's not much to tell really. I shot this as I saw it, the only thing I've done is play with the white balance to enhance the blue color. I also used Neatimage to reduce the noise somewhat as there was some noise from ISO800. I used high ISO to get the shutter speed I wanted, I think using a longer exposure time is partly what made the moon's reflections look the way it does. A shorter time would have produced a narrower light streak, because of the longer time the swell created a broader reflection.

This is a great image, simple but so appealing.

Don't bother with a grad for long exposure night shots, the exposure latitude is so wide you would gain nothing.

Concentrate on equipment and you'll take technically good photographs. Concentrate on seeing the light's magic colours and your images will stir the soul. - Jack Dykinga

That's good to know. I was wondering about that. :)

The shot works really well. Very simple composition and range of colours all go to making a very moody scene. I really like it, keep it up.
