I'm kind of in a bind for money at the moment and would love to get a 1D MKII... I need the 100-300 range though... I currently have the 70-200 F/4L and the 300 F/4L IS.... If I sold those 2 and bought just the Sigma 100-300 F/4 DG I could save some money to be invested in a MKII... do you think it's worth it? from what i've read it is a very sharp lens.. Definetly not prime sharp. But i'm only a hobby'ist, I don't shoot for money... yet

I could get possibly aorund $500 for the 70-200 and around $900 for the 300 f/4 IS... and I found the 100-300 for $640 used... I'd have somewhere aorund $700 left over...

Give it a go?

If you don't mind the extra weight, I'd sell the 70-200 f/4 . Buy the Sigma 100-300, try it out. Then decide if you want to sell the 300f/4 IS. That way you wouldn't be losing anything. That sigma is a great lens

Sigma 100-300 is supposed to be a pretty nice deal, but I don't think it's nearly as sharp (or as light) as the 300/4L. Personally I'd drop both and pick up a 70-200/2.8L and get some teleconverters.

How does 280/4 and 400/5.6 sound? :D

I'm in the process of doing the same myself (except that my 300/4 is the non-IS version). The Sigma weighs a ton, but it's sharper wide open than the 70-200 and pretty much equal to the 300/4 :) It doesn't focus quite as quickly as the 70-200 and is definitely slower than the 300/4. It's still pretty quick, though.
The only down side is that it doesn't focus accurately below 300m (it's fine at 300 then progressively worse below that). I've just sent it to Sigma for calibration, so I'll keep my fingers crossed.

I wouldn't....I mean, I wouldn't trade those. You've already got the FL covered. Unless you want new stuff or what not I don't see the reason right offhand.
