I voted no.

I dont need spot metering. The bigger screen would be nice, but im not going to pay an extra $200 for it.

I thought long and hard about it, and I was going to "upgrade", but ill only do it if it costs me less than $100. I think im just going to wait and upgrade to a 5D, or the 30D's replacement. If im going to pay for an upgrade, then it should be a REAL upgrade, something more than spot metering, and a bigger screen.

I came from a 350D, so the leap for me was huge. Some 20D guys see more in the 30D, some dont. Some things are often overlooked though. 1/3 ISO stops, variable FPS (3 or 5), spot metering as said above, very very slightly bigger body (personal preference though), ISO in the viewfinder when needed, more parameter adjustability (for JPEG shooters), bigger LCD, and orientation sensor. While to some this is not much, to others its everything they wished their 20D had originally. I would say stick with a 20D until you need either more resolution with a FF or a 1 series.

Not enough additional features to justify an upgrade. A true upgrade for me would be to a 1DMkIIN. :)

You can't really call a 30D a full upgrade from the 20D. It's more like an update than an upgrade. Now say if we get a 40D with weather sealing and a FF sensor, now THAT would be an upgrade! :D :D :D

I wouldn't mind the larger LCD but just couldn't justify the extra cost for it. Voted NO and stuck to my beautiful 20D

I wouldn't have if I wasn't offered such a good deal. Back in April, 1 month after the 30D hit the market, I had an opprotunity to buy a brand new 30D for under $1,000. I then subsequently sold my 20D for close to $900. I mean, who wouldn't take that?
Now that I've upgraded, I'm really glad I did. The improved features are very convenient.

I'm waiting for the 40D!

30D did not add enough to be worth the switch - especially as when it came out I'd only had my 20D for 2 months!

i did and i'm glad i did as it mirrors my 5D in terms of user control. the LCD is easier for me to read without having to put my glasses back on, and the one feature that i love the most is being able to check the ISO setting without having to pull the camera away from my shot just to make sure.
is the image quality different?.........no, the 20D is the best in it's class and the 30D is no better.
one thing i did experience with the 20D though, and it had the latest firmware, was "lockups"...............never had one with the 30D. call it a feature, but not having to pull the battery out and then reload is a worthwhile reason to upgrade for me.

I couldn't see any reason to upgrade at all. I only use the rear screen for the menu and histogram, and I find the 'partial' metering OK for the occasional time I want to use it.

30D doesn't offer enough over the 20D; I supplememted the 20D with a 5D (or is it the other way 'round?).

Im saving my penny's for the 5D. It wouldn't be worth the money for me to upgrade for the same camera (-) the bigger screen, spot, and the picture styles.

Same story with me. I love my 20D and I wanted a second body (to save on lens swapping in the field), I was really looking forward to getting the 20D replacement to fill that role. When it came out I was really disappointed that it wasn't more of an upgrade and considered getting another 20D, whilst the prices were cheap. However, I like to have different bodies as they all have good and bad points, different bodies means that where one is bad, the other may be better and vice versa.

Anyway, I also bit the bullet and bought a 5D and the two really complement each other, as well as being easy to swap between with the controls being almost identically laid out. The 5D has the FF etc but only 3fps, but the 20D can handle all the action stuff with it's 5fps.

I'm afraid I never really considered buying the 30D, once the specifications had been announced.

I voted no. In my opionion the 30D should have been called the 20DN, since it only has marginal improvements. The spot meter is the only major one that I would like. However, if I was buying a new camera I would choose the 30D.

I will wait for the next generation which should have an improved sensor and other features such as dust control added. This seems to be a trend. I started with the D60, skipped the 10D and bought the 20D. I will skip the 30D and look seriously at the next generation.
