Caribbean reflection

I was halfway through a shoot and my clients needed to go change into bathing suits. I took a 5 minute breather on the dock waiting for them and spied a cool reflection in a lamp on the pillar.

I was fortunate enough to have the 85mm 1.8 on my 1Ds and composed a couple shots. I liked this one the most. My crops are weird. No one usually likes them. I tried many different sharpening workflows with my newfound enthusiasm for my FM medium toolkit action.

Stock shot from RAW. Saturation plus 7, some other tweaking. Resize to 800. Unsharp mask at 166, 0.3, 0. Second pass at 15, 100, 0 them the FM ES Pro 16 bit at Medium Auto.

Definitely an unusual variation on a theme given that you're in the Carribean and choose to photograph a bollard and lamp instead. That said though, I like it.

This is an excellent image, different, but with loads of imapact.

The only thing I would change is to strip it down a touch and remove these (attached image), in this instance, less is more.

In these days of Photoshop and the countless requests from customers I get to just (verb) "photoshop" it out, I'd prefer to reshoot rather than remove.

Funny how I never even noticed them as I focused more on bringing out the natural colours and sharpness of the reflection.

I see these every day in %90 of my images, so I've grown accustomed to them!
