I need to get a CP filter for my sigma 10-20, 77 mm lens...and wondered which one you would recommend. I would like it to have front threads to accomodate my cokin holder...and understand it should be thin for this wide angle.

What would you suggest and why?

Thank you, Margie

I would suggest Heliopan, B+W or Hoya. Be careful with Hoya as there are four or five different types(quality) of CPL's....I would only buy the Pro-1D or Super Pro 1D (HMC). I bought the Hoya Super Pro and its very good, however does vignette in the 10-14 mm range on my 10-22 lens. Others report no vignetting so maybe its just my technique!

If you're using a filter and a cokin P holder, you will vignette at wide angles. That said, go for a B+W thin filter.

I use Sigma's (external link) for this lens, as well as my 17-40L. Multi-coated, thin and threaded.

"Raw" is not an acronym, abbreviation, nor a proper noun; thus, it should not be in capital letters.

+1 same here. You can get it from sigma4less.com for about 100 bucks. The front does indeed have some threads on it, as you can see here:

Thank you all...I will check out those brands. My problem is that I picked up a Hoya thin multicoated filter the other day and didn't realize that it would be a problem that it had no front threads. I have a new cokin filter system for this lens and I cannot put it on without the front threads.

I will look into some of the ones you have suggested...

I like the Hoya Pro 1 CP (77mm), works well for me. Deals can be found on Ebay.

Stick with Heliopan or B+W, followed by a Hoya Pro1.

I use Heliopans, personally. They recently moved all their frames to "slim" types - and maintain threads on the front for other filters, rubber lens hoods or lens caps.

I decided this morning to definitely take back the Hoya I purchased last week without front threads.
I will look into all of your suggestions...Hopefully I will find one under $150. or even $125. I don't think I can ask for anymore than that.
This photography is an expensive hobby!
Thank you for all your suggestions....Margie
