David's ( Meerkat17) recent images from last year made me take another look at Castle Crag.
So had a go at processing this one to bring out some shadow detail.
Just some nostalgia, really. :o

Anyway, Castle Crag in the midground and behind is Skiddaw, one of Englands highest mountains, overlooking the town of Keswick.

Very 3D.
You retained detail in the deep shadows and in the hazy bg while the mg stands out very boldly.
The criss cross shapes work very well.

I remember this shot. This new version is much better now there is some detail in the right of the picture. I felt the original was just too dark.

You really need to get out and shoot some new stuff though;)

That's quite a contrast in light levels Cameron, and I keep thinking that the dark area detracts from the light area, or as a sort of framing/lead-in to the light area, it takes up too much of the composition.

That was exactly my first impression when I looked at the image last November.
Too much of a contrast between left and right.
Also, although there is a subject ( Castle Crag ) there is nothing to lead the eye.
That said, I don't know why, I just like it.
Perhaps it's the contrast border itself or the tree.
I don't know. ?!

Thanks, Seaboarder.
I think it's the "criss cross" border I like.

I think you mean this shot;
https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=159158
Taken at the same time and heavily shopped but not the same image.
What I mean is it's not a crop of the above.

Damn, you've got a good memory.

Whilst I like this one too, I feel the last one had a more creative edge to it which helped it to work. "the same one Robert remembered!" If my memory serves me well you also took a shot at the same time I took the one I posted but from a slightly different view point. At least it's not over processed and over-sharpened to within an inch of it's life!:D ;)

Irrespective of the various merits of the composition, its a stunning view. :)
Isn't it time you two 'OB's' got out together again? I heard the local innkeepers were complaining about a lack of income

In case some of you are wondering this is the image David and Robert are referring to.
Thanks David.

I was up in Carlisle last week and a guy was telling me that his son lives in West Cumbria and the only place he could afford to live was a caravan that cost £40,000 just for the site!

House prices are getting out of control.
If a young nurse or teacher has to up sticks and move because they can't afford the acccomodation ..... whose going to educate your kids or look after you when you become old and decrepit, Damian.....Damian, hello. :)

Serious point though.
