It was my first time at a NASCAR race and I did a lot of research on what to take with me for photo gear. These were shot with a Canon 5D 70-200 f2.8 IS w/1.4 Canon extender. I missed a lot of cars as I found out they really go fast so some were framed ok and a lot were deleted. A lot of fun but I was really tired at the end of the day and the lighting was difficult depending on the turn.

Nice pics.
Must be tough, I wonder what IRL is like. Can you say aching backs?

When I printed them at higher resolution they look better. There also may be a bit of blur on as I was trying to pan and get clear shots showing motion. I shot over 400 images during the day. While these may not be the best I thought these had interest with multiple cars. Still a work in progress to learn how to catch them clean.

I would call it a very respectable first time effort. Shooting cars at 200+ mph is not an easy task and does take some practice. Sounds like you had a fun time.

I hope this works as I have not tried it before. Click the thumbnail to link to a gallery of shots from Atlanta including drivers, pit stops and track images.

Some good catches. I especially like the 29 and the 8 in the turns. Those really show the speed.

Those thumbnails and resized pictures don't give your photos justice.
If you go to the gallery and view them at full size, you can see how good and sharp they were.
Great photos! I played around with PS a bit on some of your pictures and they are as clean as any photo I've seen. So, nice work!

Ves, thanks for checking out the gallery and your comment. I have printed some up to 13x19 after some PS work and was very happy with the results.
