Did just a little cropping, USM and saturation for color.

so much fun!! If you could have shot from an angle that maybe elliminated the house and just got those beautiful trees in the background, they might be a little better. ...like with #4. 4 is probably my favorite. Did you use your 24-70 for these? Something I would have tried was maybe getting a lot closer and shooting up at them with something wider like your 17-40.

The light was best at that particular angle and I wish I could have gone a little closer, but then you lose some of the perspective of height and how high the leaf pile was. Don't worry, we haven't taken them all up yet. Many more days of raking, so the boys will be jumping a lot. They don't have school M&T this week. I'll be outside with them a lot. I was just amazed how great the 20D was in capturing the hang time. Also, the 24-70 is amazing. It's so fast.

Do you mean that the AF was so fast on the 24-70? I don't think you'd lose any perspective on height with a wider lens. You'd likely gain some perspective and some depth at the same aperture, just by nature of wider angle lenses. Regarding the light, what about a little fill-flash? Expose that sky a tad darker and fire some fill-light in there, which might help to stop the action a little as well. I'll be anxious to see more, these are fun-shots!

I have the 17-40, so I can try that. It was a cloudy day yesterday, but tomorrow should be bright sun. Yep, the AF is fast, but still not as good as my 85. I would have to stand way back for that lens. Maybe I'll try that one anyway. The boys will be jumping a lot. :)

Yeah, try the wider lens. I think you'll like the effect, but wide angle does take some getting used to. Try some fill-flash too.

Thanks to all who have responded.

No, just off the railing, but that is about 6 feet off the grass and they really can jump. Off the roof? Don't give them any ideas. :) Great fun, really. The pile will get higher today. And if they could climb up to the porch roof, they would. ;)

Okay, I promised I was going to have pictures, but this is what happened today.

Me: J & G (my sons) Go outside and rake the leaves up some more so we can have a bigger pile.
J&G: Okay, Mom.
The two of them run off with the shed key to get the rakes. About 30 minutes later, J comes in.
J: Mom, we lost the shed key in the pile of leaves and can't find it.
Me: What? How did you do that?
J: Well, G wanted to play a game called "Where is the key?" and dropped the key into the center of the pile of leaves.
Me: You did what?
J: It was all G's idea, but I made it worse by jumping in the pile and scattering the leaves so we don't know where the key is.
Me: You boys better get the rakes and find that key under the leaves!
J: We can't do that.
Me: Why not?
J: I put the rakes back in the shed and locked it.
Me:    :p

Called the husband, found the spare key. They still can't find it with the rakes so I go out and start going nuts before the sun goes down and after 30 minutes, we found the key. The keychain is yellow, like the leaves. Thank heavens the key was black.

Maybe tomorrow if I can stand making another pile of leaves. Key is safe.:o

We have an acre of land and about 200 trees about 60+ feet tall. It's going to take several adults to do this. But voting today and having lots to do before shooting again. I've never used the fast shooting mode before. I don't even use it for sports because I'm always worried I won't have enough memory. The 20D isn't nearly as fast as the 1DMKIIN, but it's great. I have the EOS 3 and I can get through a roll of 36 in less than 10 seconds. Remember those days?
