I don't think my 70-200 IS is sharp....

your right to send the lens back if you are not happy with it, i bought this lens and it wasnt perfect so i sent it back, its too much money to mess around with! hope your replacement works out for you!

The lens looks fine. But then again my cheapy tamron 55-200mm produced (for it) very sharp results at f5.6, which looked about the same, or better than your example. But remember, you're paying for build, focus speed, f2.8 and IS, not just benefit of sharpness.

OK, which one of those can you not do without? The build, focus speed, f2.8 and IS can all go over the rail, but without sharpness, none of the others matter at all.

My copy is a bit soft at 200 even stopped down. I have heard that from others too. Don't forget it's not a prime.

Looks fine to me. But if it will set your mind at ease, send it back (you will need to send your body) and get it calibrated.
