My friend is offering it to me for $500. It's in perfect condition.

I already have the 70-300 IS, but I think the price is pretty good. I see them online for about $1100 new.

What would you guys do? I spent quite a bit of time with my camera already, but I'm trying to figure out when I would use the 70-200 L lens over my 70-300.

Well, if it's in perfect condition, I would, if I hadn't already sworn off buying unseen used.

Buy it. If you don't like it, resell it for more than you bought it for.

If it's your friend, then buy it. That's a great deal. Why's he selling it?

That's a great price for a great lens. Need it, or not, too good to pass up. Why such a low price? Are you absolutely sure it's the f2.8 and not the f4?

$500!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! yes buy it. its a great lens and you will use it a lot for lower light situations, heck itll probably replace your 70-300 entirely. and for what you are paying for it u could sell it for a profit later. First, make sure its the 2.8 version, and then either your friend is giving you a great deal, the lens is broken, or he has no idea what hes selling or how much to sell it for.

I bought it. It's the real thing. 2.8L 70-200. No doubt. My friend just wanted to sell it quick. Thanks for the replies. Anybody want a 70-200 2.8L lens for $900? (just kidding).

Wow, what a great deal. You'll see why its good to have along with the 70-300. It's a much better lens too. :)

Congratulations. Damn, even if your friend sold it at 800, he would have sold it fast.

GREAT price on great lens. I love mine. I went to the track today to take pics of my wife jogging. I was surprised at the ability to take pics from the stands, across the football field to the other side of the track and still have such a nice result. Next week I get my Canon 1.4 extender, maybe even tomorrow on Big Bron, can't wait to see what the extra distance will give me. Enjoy, you can't go wrong. In five years, you will still be able to make a profit on it if you so decide.
