Yeah... it's a great lens. I'm looking at getting one myself, but I'd be lucky to find one for US$1000 here let alone $500!

Something else that may not have been mentioned is that it will work fantastically with a teleconverter, so you can get a bit more reach out of it too (and possibly leave the 70-300 IS at home)

I've heard the 70-300 IS isn't a bad lens, but it's a aimed more at the consumer market and rather cheaply built.

Anyway... enjoy your new toy!! :)
