Did you do any particular PP to get the craters to stick out like that

Just standard levels and some USM.

I assume the difference is my shot is not a full moon therfore more shadows, which gives more detail.

I'm moon terminology illiterate

I've just read several times thet you get more detail when it's less than full moon due to the angle of the sun (I think) Seems to work.

Have you seen Liquidstone's moonshots?
Uses a Sigmonster , often with teleconverters.
Worth checking out.

Nice shot sab.
Good first post!
Interesting comparing our 2 shots - detail in completely different places.

It is a fun thing to try and shoot. I like the shots seen so far.

Try some daytime shots for a different effect.

Here is one taken handheld with the 100-400 @ 400 - ISO was screwed up from a shoot the night before (dammit) so the exif data is really strange: SS 1/1250 ISO 640 f/6.3 - not cropped too much - just squared for a different view.

ideally you shouldn't shoot the full moon........ there is no shadow in the craters and you lose all the detail when the moon is full..........

try a half moon next time.........
