ISO1600 !!!! 1/50, 50mm f/1.8, 550EX speedlite

straight off the camera, the noise level (lack of) is unbelievable. Never would I thought you even use this setting (not with colour film anyway or in any point and shoot, good thou my Canon S70 is), practiaclly the only way to shoot in the dark with a flash handheld to avoid a overexposed subject with some background lighting instead a pitch dark background.

Ahh... gotta love it :) High ISO performance is one reason I'm glad I went Canon and 20D :)

Nice shot.
Stopping the nifty down a bit to 2.2 or 2.4 or so will make it a little sharper and increase your DOF a bit.

30D etc.

bannedPermanent ban

I may pick up one of these while the rebates are still going on to use as my primary camera. I'll give the 20D and 10D permanent backup status.

And just a little pinch of Noise Reduction and some color balance .. Great shot. Of course a RAW image and some C1 would of been great.

You chaps have certainly removed the noise, but I think you've taken some of the atmosphere too. I think it's mainly the neutralising of the colour cast - it doesn't go with the surroundings for me.

How are you Raymond? ;)

I played with your noise reduced version last night a little bit. I'm a total PS neophyte, but I played with curves, and clone stamped out some cheek and forehead highlights along with one or two blemishes. I think the eyes are little over sharp in my version. I used smart sharpen. I need to read up on how to locally control sharpness.

Thanks for the practice. I don't have even one portrait yet through my fancy new Xti. I hope 1600 looks as good on the Xti as it does on the 30D.

Edit: I forgot to ask: Who is she, and did you get her number? :D

I like what you did in PS, sharper than mine.

My 30D just came in today and I went to mom's an hour ago to pick it up. This camera is everythingI thought it would be. It feels but of course the lens and battery isn't in it nor is the vertical grip. I am so proud of myself, I am reading the manual first as I promised myself. I can't wait to take my first picture with it. Now if I can find time between two jobs and trying to get some sleep. I remember feeling like a real photographer when I got my AE-1 21 years ago, I feel like a kid again with a new expensive toy.
