Congrats on the purchase! The kit lens takes a size 58mm filter. The 50mm takes a 52mm size filter. The filter sizes should be on the back of the lens caps.

Asking for what kind of lens you need is too vague. We would also need to know what you want to do with it, price, etc.

Thanks oh I'm sorry that was meant to be the Lense Hood .. not a lense. is it the same size as the filter for the hood ?

Each lens has it's own specific lens hood. I know that some may be bale to fit others, but I'm not sure which ones they are. I'm also not totally sure if others fit others though. It's best to just go with the lens hood specific to the lens. To be honest with you, I don't think the lens hood for the kit lens is worth it.

Kit lens takes an EW-60C.
"Nifty" takes the ES-62A but also needs a Hood Adapter 62, sold separately.

You can also get the cheapie screw on rubber lens hoods. Unless you are going to the beach or to a dust storm...you really don't need filters unless you are going for special effects. Your money would be better spent on the proper Canon hoods, that Jon specifically mentioned in the previous post.
