I am going to see Artie Lange Thursday night at Carnegie Hall and was wondering what lens to bring. I am thinkiing of either the 85 1.8 or 100 2.0 (need to purchase one of these). I looked at Carnegies website and they don't say anything about cameras being allowed or banned.

Carnegie typically does not allow cameras...

I wanted to bring some kit to a FRIEND'S performance - couldn't even do that. I was miffed.

Generally, no photos there.

Here is a list of their phone numbers.

Disappointing when we are looking to shoot but considering everything they do to provide great accoustics I'm happy not to hear shutters going off when I attend performances at that venue.

Last year my son sang there. I had my xt/ 50 1.8 and the security guard was pushing people of the way to get to me, and this was AFTER the performance. The people he was pushing, btw, were standing in the footlights snapping away on their cell phone cameras.

WildWolf, you're a lucky dog, Artie's really coming into his own. It sucks about the camera, but I bet you'll have a blast anyway.

Maybe if you take a tour, you will be allowed to take pictures. Of course, there would be no performance going on. Personally, if I was there listening to an orchestra, I'd be pissed if I had to hear cameras going off. I will be there 12/9 for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra - can't wait.

Dude, you are going to have so much fun! I just went and saw Sal the Stockbroker, Rev Bob Levy, Shuli and Richard Christy when they were in town this past weekend. They were hilarious! Artie rules...

When my son performed there with his choir I tried to get some pictures of the rehearsal. My wife and I were the only ones in the theater and security shut me down. I would never snap the shutter during a performance.

Probably wouldn't hear it over all the cell phones ringing, but still in very poor taste. ;)

I actually wanted to shoot the celebrities in the crowd more than the comedians on stage. I am really looking forward to it. Thanks for all the replies
