Oh, Dante buys great stuff so often, and sometimes, it seems a little extravagant, but that's Dante and I admire his ability to spend the money. Now, it's more fun following Ronald's 24-70 antics because we never know what he's thinking and before you can finish your post, he's already sold the thing he was talking about 2 mintues ago and bought something else! And there are some here who collect gear, just to do it. We know who you are. :)

I seem to recall the 5D won't activate all its extra AF with a lens less than f2.8
So if its daylight ambient, it won't matter much, AF will be fine. If its darker, the IS is what you hang your hat on. For the sake of lighter carry weight.
So we'll see. Literally.

It just has to be in ai servo for the extra ones to work.

You mean like the 17-40 I've had for a week, screwed up two group shots with distortion, am overall unhappy with the lens and now I'm selling it for 24-70L #7?

Made ya look. ;-)a

Just keep an eye on the signature, that's all I have to say.

LOL, see what I mean.;)

Yes 17-40 is very bad for groups close up, great distortion, 24-70 much better as I did that huge shot of my husband's family with it. Perfect, very little distortion and light was amazing through the lens. 17-40 only for landscapes or indoors to make the room look bigger, or in front of a large building, a large group. I use it for temple wedding shots, very effective. But the 24-70 is too nice and can't argue with the fact that it doesn't mess up a lot of the time, especially for shots that really matter. Ronald, you know better.

Now I just have to see if I can hold out and buy new when my mom pays me back, or buy used now. Decisions...agh.

Remember what I said about the signature, though. A couple of the things, you won't ever see or notice. Three phrases: Broncolor, 1.2, and simply "1".

I'm now wanting that 24-105 more and more. Heck of a lot lighter than the 24-70 f2.8. Maybe that's what you should have gotten. :)

mark

It is funny mark, as I was looking at a razor copy of that too. That one lens would about do it. Not quite though. It is smaller and lighter than the 24-70. The DO is really unbeatable as a travel lens.

braduardo wrote in post #2231894 (external link)
As so many people have said already, I'm sure you will find the lens to be quite nice.

Yes it is nice. nice for travel.

Do you want honesty? Yes, it is hypocritical. If i had to be even more honest, I'd like to see you USE the gear you have more instead of talking about it so much. I don't mean to be rude of course, but how many posts do you need to make about what new lens you bought with no real useage coming from it, that too seems hypocritical. I am sure most of us are no different though :)

Just my .02, I could be wrong, who knows!

Well I do shoot quite a bit and the post here are maybe %5 of my work and personal photography. I do understand your point and appreciate your honesty!!

I almost tracked down all his posts w/photos just to prove you wrong...perhaps you should check them out before you cast aspersions...

LOL! This thread cracks me up! As do many other gear threads. I am just happy with my trusty old 300D and a few primes... Oh! Not to mention that perfect light that comes twice a day most days. :) Anyone and everyone is welcome to donate to the Runt Needs Better Equipment Fund!!! LOL!

in Dante's defense he is a very busy guy. owning and operating a popular eatery in yuppie-ville and raising a family is constant work....hey and i know "it's rough all over".

having more money that time isn't all it's cracked up to be :D !

Well I am taking the family to the "Mouse House" for the Christmas season and wanted to add a lens to my 24-70. Well, my rationale is that dragging 2 kids all over the enchanted kingdom, I need to lighten my load and go minimalistic.

How is taking nearly $10,000 worth of camera gear on a holiday "minimalistic" man! :) Only in America! LOL!
How about a Canon S400 or something? ;)

Pm me the price. I think I need a second F4 for my bidness. With my blown elbow now, a 2.8 zoom just isn't possible.

people will always try to stop you doing the right thing if it is unconventional
Full frame and some primes.
