Geez Dante......the whole reason for having kids is so that we have someone to carry our lenses isn't it? Just KIDDING! Have a great time!

Ok, I know I am going to get many posts on going back on my lens philosophy. I vowed never to buy a lens slower than f/2.8. That changed today. BUT let me explain further.

Well I am taking the family to the "Mouse House" for the Christmas season and wanted to add a lens to my 24-70. Well, my rationale is that dragging 2 kids all over the enchanted kingdom, I need to lighten my load and go minimalistic. I went to the shop today and this strange voice was calling me. YEP, the 70-200 f/4 IS. This thing can damn near fit in my pocket yet has great focal length and IS. So my 5D with out grip, 24-70, 70-200 f/4 IS and batteries will be in Mickey's face allowing me to focus on documenting the experience and enjoying myself and my kids company.

SO... Call me a hypocrite or getting wiser. BUT REST ASSURED, after this trip, there will be a very well cared for 70-200 f/4 IS going up on the marketplace. As many that have bought my "cast off lenses" (and i miss them all, except the 50 1.8), this lens was hand picked for sharpness. It is Razor. Heck it should be, its an L.

If people are interested I'll make up a mini review with pics.

Didn't you own a 70-300 DO IS at one point? Is the 70-200 f/4 IS that much of a leap?

I pair my 75-300 IS USM with my 24-70L for travel use, for those same reasons. Small, light, IS for long focal lengths.

I took that lens to Disneyland, but I didn't really use it much. The 35L is the lens for disneyland:)

How so? Please elaborate!!!

They are kinda small and clumsy right now. When they get a tad bigger they will be ready. Right now they must master bringing daddy's beer with out dropping it. Chilling the perfect mug... I got priorities you know!!

I did have the DO. Miss it for times like this. It is the stealth lens of the century!!! This lens, the 70-200 f/4 IS is RAZOR. I must say.

You don't have to do that! You could have bought the 2.8L IS and kept your word, as well as kept the lens. I think your choice is a mistake. Have fun, and I bet you still take great pictures, as you are more skilled than any equipment could hold back!

The 35L would be a great one lens solution, if you had to have just one. It'll do buildings and scenes just fine, good for family/kid shots, kids with characters, kids on rides (if you're fairly close), etc. I can't really think of anything it wouldn't do. It's also crazy sharp and super duper fast to focus.

For me, if I took two lenses, it'd be the 35L and the 85L. Do it all, and with some gusto!

I might prefer the extra reach of the DO on the full frame. I used a Tamron 28-200 ver II on a few occasions when I shot an Elan film body, the 200mm wasn't long enough for me on 35mm, I had to upgrade at the time to the 75-300mm IS. I would imagine the same would apply for the 5D, though that body might have to force an upgrade to one of the 70-300 lenses.

I love it! My kid turns 22 this month, and still can't get the beer thing right!

Seriously though, I was just at Disney World on Halloween week, and found that the 24-70 f/2.8 L was the perfect lens. Great for the scenery/family stuff....and the wildlife there is so tame that you can literally walk right up to them. Just add a good circ polarizer, and you're good-to-go:

That adjective does not have any force because of it's source.
Every damn lens you have ever had (and sold) (including some Tamrons, etc..)
was claimed to have been was a putative "razor".

Seriously, I am not much better than you that way.....you and I must have returned (in my case) and sold (in your case) more lenses than the Dolt and his future son in law CalzoneSinger will ever own combined.

Why not keep the darn lens.....it is certainly good for more than one trip or outing when the gear weight would be at premium. How will you ever become an Intermediate CoLLector if you keep seLLing/returning ?
