don't get the 135L.... get the 180L Maco instead ;)

That's got my vote. For flowers and stuff I would get a 180L macro instead of the 135L but I have not used either so what do I know?

Yeah, I already have the 100mm macro. I do fine with that, no need for another macro.

The 180 L also works perfectly as a all purpose lens. Look at this thread https://photography-on-the.net …hp?t=234859&highlight=180 WOW. A lens that can shoot both bugs and birds perfectly? That is pretty good.

I know but if I were to get a lens around that focal length, I would get the 200L and save the extra $600

I don't need the 135L either but it's my next purchase. Pics I have seen are spectacular.

Well, if you have AMEX Shopping Rewards you can get it for 30% off...that is a $300 savings! I am so tempted to cash in my points...I have just enough! AMEX has 185 Canon items (bodies, hoods, and lenses) on a 30% sale if you use Reward Points :) See below:

Mike,

You have to be a member of the AMEX Membership Rewards program. You get points for all charges to the AMEX card. Over time they will add up and you can cash them in for all kinds of consumer goods. I bill everything I can to AMEX...utilities, cable, phones service, gas, groceries, etc. I pay off my bill once a month as AMEX does not carry a balance. The wife and I average about $4K a month in charges...but rememebr we pay everything we can using the AMEX card.

I got my 100MM EF Macro lens this way...it cost about 100K in points and "free" to me.

The current promo is for 30% off on many Canon products. The 135 L sells for $900 at Amazon.com and I can get it 126,768 points instead of the usual 181,188 points. That equates to about $300 in savings off the cash price.

I currently have 126K points in the "bank" and I am so tempted to get this lens...it would put me back to zero points but what a deal :-)

Thanks Jim,

I tried to apply for an AMEX card but they rejected me because they coudln't find my income statement and I don't have one. Luckily, my parents has an AMEX card, is there away I could check to see how many points they have? I want to get the 35L before Christmas. Thanks

Mike,

Ask your parents if they have joined the Memebrship Rewards program. It is a special program and costs $75 a year to participate. If they are members then they should get a monthly statement or they can see it online.

Points are given for every purchase made with the card. Some things are 1 point for 1 dollar and others are 2 points per dollar spent. It takes a while for the points to add up but if one does as my wife and I do and use AMEX for everything you can the points will accumulate quickly. I jpined about three years ago and overall I have had 265K points...as I said earlier I spent 100K of them on my EF 100MM Macro.

Good luck with your purchase...hope it works for you,

Ok, I don't need this lens. I just got a set of extention tubes and tried them out on my 50 with great results. Love the colors. Can't help but think how good they might be with that 135. I really like to shoot flowers.

JUST TELL ME NOT TO GET IT!

Thanks.
Adam

Price rationalization is an important part of this-- well, it's only so much more than this, which is only so much more than... the 50/1.8! It's a bargain! Really though, basketball seaon coming up, I need a fast indoor lens. I could get an 85/1.8, but why do that when you can spend more? :D .
