I used to do this in real-time back in the Commodore Amiga days, video camera on the monitor which just so happens to be playing the output of the same video camera. Should be able to do this as easily with an ATI Card if you wanted to go further with the concept. At some point the ATI software allowed you to make the video input of the card to be played on the background, behind the icons.

I've seen that before... at the time it occured to me to try it but I decided I didn't want to move my monitor and a blank wall isn't that exciting either.

hahahaha same here. I did one at work and all I had was some ratty wall with some un-bundled cables going down behind the monitor. Guess thats the good thing about having a laptop, can pick your background. But to change it everytime you move the thing? Ouch.
