Digital rebel (300D) or the D60?

Okay guys I need your help!
I can buy the D60 my company no longer uses for $850. Or I can buy a digtal rebel body at B&H! What do you think. I havn't invested in any lenses yet, but I did buy the 420 EX flash which has no flash compensation. I use FEL though so it shouldn't be a problem. I love the D60 but the Rebel has a better sensor. I don't mind being sneered at for the plastic either. I plan on doing mostly fashion and landscape shots?
SO??? Urgh...............all this is provided I can get the okay from the hubby! Most likely though...

Actually, I don't know why.

One caveat---it all depends on how used the D60 is.
Hundreds of pictures?
Thousand of pictures?
Tens of thousands of pictures?

That could make a difference in my decision.

I waffled for a while, voted for the Rebel. Personally though I'd prob get the D60, but that's because the Reb is probably more like a chick camera :P :P //ducks - shots coming both the reb owners and ruby // kidding of course. Also seeing that you'd do fashion and landscapes, you don't mind the slightly slower FPS, while the AF is faster then the D60.

You may want to wait for the PMA, maybe a third choice would arise...

I don't see any real advantage of the Rebel. People say the sensor is "better". Is it because it is newer, or truely better? I've used the 10D which has the same sensor, but I did not see the advantage over the D60. Even the AF is determined by more than just the camera itself. The person shooting has to have proper technique. The lens has to be of good quality and compatability. And the subject must be autofocusable (word??).

To some it all up, the D60 has more features and they are very much usable. The Rebel has more limitations and can leave some people wanting more control.

My vote is the D60 over the Rebel any day. If the vote was between the 10D and D60 I would say 10D if the out of pocket cost was the same.

It's AF performance alone is enough to make me want the newer technology. (yes the 300D has AF improvements over the 10D )

True I am afraid that showing up for a photo shoot with the D-rebel just makes me look less serious. I love the fact that there is less noise and it should be better for low light shots. It is rather chicky! Opps... also doging blows. Maybe it looks a bit tougher in person. I wonder if it's tough enough to hold up a L tele lens? As if I could convince the hubby of that!

Actually because You have more control over the results then the 300D, but yes the auto focus is far far better on the 300D.

Technically just to let you know, the sensor is the same on all three D60/10D/300D. What is different in the results is the DIGIC processor for 10D and 300D, which is not on the D60. The CMOS chip is basically the same chip (same pixel pitch). There is a different IR filter range (which maybe why it works slightly better in low light then before - interseting thought I just had) thus you have limited IR with 10D/300D, but none with D60.

However, The D60 will allow you far more control over the image as you are taking it then the 300D.

If you are shooting indoors frequently without flash, then go with 300D, otherwise the D60 should be more useful.

Just my opinion, feel free to ignore.

I am sure there a people out there using 10Ds and they never move out of the "P" mode.

Since PMA is only a few weeks away I would hold off for a couple of weeks. I also think it would be easier to flip the 300D if you bought it and were not happy with it. Try to get the kit lens if available. you can turn a profit on the lens even if you don't want to keep it.

"Because it's black" has to be the most inane response I have read. (and on more then this post) Don't be concerned with how your equipment looks, just the end results that you get.

Waiting not an option on the D60

Well if your just starting and trying to get models for TFP work it looks better to have a profi looking camera IMHO.

I actually have to let my boss know by the 28th of January. They are throwing in a 35 f/2 lens also.... It's not overly used though the second battery doesn't hold a good charge. Stll not a bad deal!

I'm sorry to answer twice,. but I just think that given that the NEW 300D is 900.00... i don't see why the old D-60 is even selling for that price? (they do go for $800.00-$850.00 on Ebay regularly..so the price is avaeradge)

If it were a used 10D,. I'd say go for it in a second,. but the D60 is now two generations old.

The Rebel will have Canon's warranty... this is a big consideration....

If you must have a "pro" looking camera,. pay a little more for a 10D in my opinion.

Rebel is new and fresh, and has the digic. D60 has more stuff, weighs 200 grams more, and is blacker.

It just depends on whether you know you'll need all the xtras. Chicky.

the 18-55mm lens come with Drebel is another plus! What lens comes withe the used D60($850)? If no lens come with that used D60 then, you have to think twice. coz you need to spend somemore money on wide lens. atleast 17 or 18 or 19mm. this kind of wide angle lenses will cost a bomb!

thats what made Drebel/300D is my choice.

The D60 is at that price point used because it is a darn good camera that gives really good control of a photograph.

As for what generation anything is will not matter at all if what you are using works like a charm for what you want and need it to do. New does not mean better in any case. If it works the way they say it will and the way you need it is the point. Give the best photographer in the world an A2 or D60 and they will always run circles around a simply good photographer with a Rebel. Why? Because he/she can control what is being photographed.

If controll is the key objective the D60 is the king over the Rebel. If you want slightly better AF, a camera that weighs less, and just to have new technology, the Rebel wins.
