Well I was messing around in studio last week playing with our new 7' yes 7 feet photopro unbrella as my key light. I also had a strobe and SB as a fill light. Also had a small strobe and SB for the background. Please let me know what you think...

ok so 30 something and counting views and no one wants to make a effort to say anything...hmmmm it must be perfict...

I think you did a great job. The only CC I would have is that his hair is almost the same color as your backdrop. For a b&w it would be nice to have a little contrast between the subject and background. Great shot again though.

The image has too much light on his face ... and not enough on the background. There is not enough shadow on his face, at an angle, for a 3 dimensional feeling. Next time, use a softbox on the face and use that 7 foot umbrella on the background. I never use an umbrella on a face ... I have one for my fill light and two for the background. I use either a softbox on faces or a 16" parabolic reflector.

Ok, here is my version. I've made it look like there were shadows and brightened up the background.
