I am looking for a portable background stand setup. I am looking for something affordable. I would like to be able to use muslin or paper on it.
I take a lot of pictures of kids. But I would like the oppinion on how wide I should go. I am thinking the wider the better?

Does anyone use the small portable white/black background setups for head shots?

I see lots of posts with setups but sometimes the background stands are left of the list of equipment.

Any help would be appreciated!!!

I have a stand that is similar to the attached image. It will take up to 12' wide and is variable length if you want. I have some muslin 10X24 backgrounds and it works great for that.

I think I paid somewhere around 60.00CAD for the stand itself. It is marketed under the name of Tristar here and is handled by Booth Photographic (external link)

Thanks Sheldon, Henrys sells Tristar for like $200. I have not found anything more reasonably priced. Is this paying too much?

I can't remember where I got mine. It might have even been on one of my trips to the US. I know for a fact it wasn't anywhere near 200.00. I've always found Henry's to be a ripoff but that is my personal opinion (so as not to slight those that like them).

I would think that you should be able to find it allot less.

The Photek that Louis linked to (second link) is a great stand. I have used it on site assisting before and will be getting one myself, its easy to use and really easily portable. I highly recommend it.
