Is it better to take a pic in black n white mode on the camera
or does it make no difference if that pic was took in color n converted in say CS2?

if you allow the camera to decide the conversion you won't have nearly the room to work then if you take it in color and convert it postprocessing..

I've found adobe lightrrom and pscs2 -> channel mixer methods to be the best.

I'll tell you what I tell my clients. If I create in black and white I can't ever go color. But if I create the images in color I can do Color, B&W, Sepia-Tone, Spot Color, Monochromatic clor (i.e .. all tones of red etc.) and more. So it's all about possibilities.

I used to think that it came out better straight from the camera but now I never use the black and white setting at all. I can't imagine not having the choice of color for an image that I really loved. It's so simple to do in photoshop - file > desaturate (2 seconds)

true, but theres much better ways :)

another quick way is picasa2, filtered B&W. it really does do a good job of looking like B&W film with a colored filter effect.
