Trying a new background and tungsten lighting out. The subject, my Youngest Daughter, she is a little slouched, I tried to lessen this effect by rotating ant-clockwise slightly. Had to shoot at iso 320 / f4 @ 1/40 sec due to the poor light given by the tungsten. One lit the background direct, I have no barn doors etc so some spilled onto her hair (from the left) the main light was through a white Brolly to the right, with a reflector immeadiatly to the left.
Many thanks in advance.

i think the f4 made her right (my right) eye a bit out of focus, but a nice picture though

it looks like her shoulder is in focus, but her face isn't.

20D and a 50 1.4 - perfect

I manual focused, on the left eye (the closest), but I understand what you are saying, as the material looks really sharp

This somewhat front focused. Her shoulder is more infocus and it starts fading across her face. Pretty subject.

I need to get some flash units eh?
I tripod mounted the camera due to the slow shutter speed, she was moving about quite a bit, trying to get the right pose, and I didnt check focus as much as I should. Had I had some decent strobes, I would have hand held the camera for some of the shots, of which I'm sure would have given better focus throughout.
I must admit though I do like using the tripod with release for these type of shots, as I'm sure it puts the subject at ease.
Thanks for CC so far - keep it coming

Ah, so she must have moved out of your focal plane. Also, shutter speed needs to be at least 1/60th. Some flash units would definately help to get the shutter speed up with ISO low.

To make you want to learn ... here is my version of your image. I hope you do buy some good portrait lights ... and learn lighting.

I hope you don't mind, I liked this picture and her eyes in the picture so much that I took out the shadows...

She is a very pretty girl :)
