One of my lenses is damaged on the edges from hurriedly replacing lens cap. The glass seems fine but the coating is removed in small "chip like" spots. I've tried to scrutinise my photos to see if this affects them but haven't noticed any damage to the pics.
Is there anything that can "replenish" this coating or must I just live with the damage?

Scratches need to be REALLY severe before they have an effect on your photos, generally.

You should be fine.

The lens cap is plastic, right?
Try cleaning the lens, to see if these 'scratches' come off...

you should be fine, i've seen lenses with heavily damaged front lenses that still made great pictures, as long as the rear lens isn't damaged you don't have to worry ;)

I would agree - try cleaning the front element. Often what appears to be damage is just a smudge.

Good point. And sometimes lens smudges are pesky. Use a nice soft lens cloth and don't be afraid of putting some pressure into your cleaning. Lens cleaning fluid helps as well.

I think trying to clean the lens is a good suggestion, but you really shouldn't worry. Check out my post in the following thread:

Clean carefully though - you don't want to scrub any coatings right off!
