Hi there,

I am new to this forum (hi :P) and i recently bought a Canon Powershot A430.
I'm very pleased with it, though i noticed something very funny and decided to ask here to see if it was something common.

Whenever i have the camera on and i switch to preview mode to view the picture i took the lens system will not close.
As soon as i hook up the camera to my computer however, the lens system will close instantly.

Now ive seen other cameras where the lens system does close as soon as you switch to preview mode, so i was wondering if this was normal and/or could be changed in any way?

I really hope its not some weird firmware error, but if so is their a possibility to flash new firmware yourself?

Thanks in advance for any information. :)

Neither my A80 nor my A620 retract on switching to Review. By not retracting the instant you go into Review mode the camera saves battery life since if you switch back to shooting mode it won't have to re-extend the lens.

Oh i see,

Well that should confirm it. Thanks. :)

[Edit]

After messing around some more, i noticed it was possible to set the lens retraction time to 0 sec. :)

try this. in menu look for an option that allows u to set ur lens retraction time. it only shows two options there; 1min and 0sec. set it to 0 sec and ur lens will retract instantly as u switch to preview mode. let me know if u worked it out.
