How do you guys do these self portraits

I've been looking at the avatars of people with their cameras held up to their faces. Are you in front of a mirror with the flash off or did someone quickly snap that picture of you holding your camera up as it you are shotting? I think those are cool, but wasn't sure because I see no flash, nor do I see a reflection.

Mirror. With the right settings and enough available light, you don't need a flash. I can't remember the last time I used my flash.
