hey guys,

since i will be done with my school in December, me and the wife have been talking about going to Yellowstone for 3-4 days. i have read an article about this exact same topic and was blown away by the great subjects that can be found there during the winter. my main objective is to have a good time and try to find eagles, wolves and other wildlife that is active that time of year. what i would like from you is some advice or stories if you have done a similar thing. good places to stay? options for renting snow mobiles? any other things to consider?

We took the snowmobiles out there a couple of years ago and had a blast, but I was there for some deep powder riding not shooting pictures. We stayed in West Yellowstone and I think it was the Best Western, I could be wrong about the hotel. You can rent sleds in town (we took our own) but they have since closed the park to snowmobiles, you can still ride the trails outside the park and that's where all of the fun riding is anyway. They have track trucks that take tourist's and cross country skiers into the park.

In the park you will see a lot of wild life. We saw a lot of buffalo, wolves and other animals. Go see Ol' Faithful and the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone. I would like to make the trip again.

thanks Chris. so what do you think is my best option for moving inside the park? i know they have those special photography tours but to be honest, i am not a fan of these. i would much rather travel by myself with some sort of snow capable ride and take my time for shooting.

I just goggled it and it looks like they are letting snowmobiles back in now, so that's the way to see the park in the winter. They were probably losing too much money with the ban.
