I think the more you check/refresh the UPS tracking page, the more likely they are to delay it.

It's happened a few times to me, but overall, maybe 1 in 300 deliveries. It can happen, and it really really sucks :(

At least you don't have to wait over the weekend, right?

What difference would it make how many times I checked/ refreshed the tracking info? It wouldn't be so bad if they had given me the later date first, but getting my hopes up and then smashing them... Oh well, at least I'll have it for the weekend.

The camera bag I ordered from Amazon Canon Deluxe Photo Backpack 200EG for Canon EOS SLR Cameras
and I chacked the free shipping. I checked the tracking info today. The estimated arrival is 11/27. Next time I'll pay for shipping.

Delivery time is inversely proportional to the tracking page refresh interval, approaching infinity.

One reason UPS may have rescheduled your delivery is because they have no other deliveries close to your address and they would lose money driving all the way out to your house just for one delivery (depending how far you are to their distribution center of course).

I'm lucky as I have both a FedEx distribution center and UPS near my house. Whenever I have a choice, I always use FedEx, even if I have to pay a few bucks more. They are much more reliable.

If I'm really anxious to get my grubby hands on something fast (both UPS and FedEx always deliver packages to my area in the late afternoon, unless it is Priority Next Day Air) I call my local distribution center and have them hold my package so I may pick it up early in the morning.

FedEx has never screwed up on me. When they say it will be there the next day it is, never fail. I hate UPS. I've had them screw up 3 of my last 3 deliveries. My last 2 FedEx deliveries were like clockwork.

Must be different according to what region of the country you are in. I've had zero problems with UPS. Several problems with FED-EX, two big ones this year.
1. Ordered a FW adapter from Apple store, recieved an opened/retaped
FED-EX box, with a box of live crickets in it.
2. Ordered a 200 f/2.8L Overnight from B&H. At first, Fed-EX gave me this
story about not reaching the facility in time..to deliver it overnight.(100
miles from my town.
Then the next week, I still hadn't recieved the lens...FED-EX didn't
know where it was, would not keep me updated, despite promising
to call or email me, I had to call them. Finally got it declared lost
and B&H filed a claim, refunded my money.
Back to UPS for me.

Every delivery company has it's share of problems, or issues. Nobody is perfect. It's rare for someone to realize they got they're package on time or one day ahead of schedule, but when it's a day late, or they weren't home to recieve it do they get upset. Delivering for almost two years I see a lot of unappreciative people when I bring they're package, the instant things don't go as smooth as usual is when they get upset.

As far as overnight packages from FedEx, Every package sent overnight, goes from your local airport to the Memphis Tn. hub, a 53 acre facility. If you overnight a package two blocks from your house, it will still go to Memphis. At midnight FedEx completely takes over the traffic control tower in Memphis and a planes takes of every few minutes. It's an absolutely insane operation.

Just remember all delivery companies are still operated by humans, which have mad mistakes for, well, our entire exisitance. Mistakes do happen, and they suck that much more when they happen to us, but in the end the problem will be resolved. At least that's what I tell myself while I take a few deep breaths.:D

I hate when they do this late on a Friday afternoon.
For me it happens about 1 in 10 UPS packages, despite the fact that I live in a relatively populated area.
USPS's tracking is not even worth paying attention to.

Completely agree!
My problem is the complete LACK of customer support. I was *promised* followup phone calls, the next day..and recieved..nothing. This happened twice in one week.I had to call them, I had to email them.
Every company has problems, it's how they are handled that makes a difference. For the last few years, FED-EX has been just short of horrible in my area. This wasn't the first screwup.
I've have had them leave a note on my door..when I WAS HOME..expecting a package. With a perfectly working doorbell..and certainly could have heard a door knock. Nothing..just a note.
I have had them deliver a package to anothe address, deliver a priority package late, deliver the wrong package..lose a package..and I'm just talking about the last couple of years. I try to avoid FED-EX whenever possible.
In my area UPS has been very good. They may suck elsewhere, but in my area, they are good, and FED-Ex..sucks.

Leave a note on the door something like:

"Dear UPS,

I authorize you to leave one (1) package from ________, tracking number ________. Please leave the package at ________.

__signed name__
__printed name__
______date_____"

I do this all the time, never had a problem.

For anything over $500 (from certain retailers), this won't fly... and my UPS guy is the bomb. I've called him on his cell before (after HQ gave it to me) to meet him at a nearby 7-11 (this particular package he said HAD to be signed for in person at the request of the retailer). UPS has been great for me... the one time I saw a delivery get rescheduled - the guy still showed up with my package ... around 6PM instead of the usual 9:30AM :)

I've had 1 issue in regard to shipping a very expensive book via UPS that was damaged in transit. They would not cover the cost as I could not prove to them (even with photos) that I'd done a good enough job packing the thing in the first place.

I'm not defending the FedEx guy in your area, but it does take longer to fill out and leave a door tag, than it would to ring the bell or knock. I know on several occaision I have been to a house and missed the person because they were in the shower/bathroom/sleeping/on the phone/upstairs or downstairs. I usualy ring first if there is a bell, and if no one responds I'll knock. He may have just knocked while you were in the bathroom. Or maybe your delivery guy has it out for you. :D Anyway, stick to what your happy with. There is plenty of work out there for all of us, and more than enough around the holidays.

Well, just saw my e-mail and message from B&H, and my order didn't go through. It was too easy. Now rescheduled for next week. It's okay. I'm used to disappointment. :(

Don't know. Actually, the Fed EX guy that does my route now, is a pretty decent fellow. Never had a problem with him. It wasn't his fault my last package got lost. He's very nice.
Point is, I realize there a lot of honest, hardworking folks at Fed-Ex, and a
few jerks...just like every other company in the world.
However, after a series of mishaps, I just prefer UPS. I don't wish Fed Ex any ill will, and as I said, the driver on my route (at least he has been the last year) is a really nice guy, never a problem with him.
So maybe the former was a problem for other customers too, maybe he moved..I don't know. I know I've not seen him around town for about a year.

That is not true and hasn't been for quite some time, in fact, at least three years or more. If you overnight a package that is going around the block, it no longer goes to Memphis. They used to do it in that manner, no longer.

As said above, every package company, like every company, has glitches. It definitely sucks when you have to wait though.

Let us know when you get it and take pictures and post them.
