I just bought a 20D and this is the first shot I took with it of my son's black eye that he got the other day. C&C PLEASE! I have no photography training other than just trial and error- so I am trying to improve my skills!
THANKS! :)

I think it's a nice shot that caught some emotion and character. I might have tried to lose the black area down to the left tho'. It doesn't contribute. If you have some more face maybe bring that in from the right, but if that is the total frame you shot then you can't really do anything. Keep it up. I like it.

Thanks! I didn't crop the image any- so that is all I have to work with. Would it have been better if I had more of the face in the image then?

Welcome to PONT. You'll learn a lot about photography from the great folks here on this forum as well as the other picture sharing forums. Also check out other Canon Digital Photography Forums (cameras, lenses, etc.)

Condyk gave you some good CC on your picture. Hope your son will be Ok :(

Your 20D is a great camera. Study the images shared by others and you'll be able to pick up great photography techniques and styles. With lots of practice, you'll become more versed using your gear. If you have the camera manual: READ IT ALL !! If not, you can download one form CanonUSA.

Cheers from PhotoScout

Hard to say. My guess is yes. But I like it as is too. You caught the important stuff that gives the shot some impact and anything else is just minor 'composition perfectionism' in that context. You could try and lose some bottom left and some tshirt at the bottom and see the results, but at the end of the day it is your 'eye' and you should present the shot as you like it.

When I shoot I usually try to get more in frame than I actually need so I have more options for cropping. I usually know what shot I want before I take it, but the extra content just gives options later so why not. Sometimes 'the shot' only appears when you PP it, but I think that is OK: PP is part of the creative process too.

Thank you all for you great advice! MUCH appreciated! I am so use to shooting with smaller MP, so I always tried to not have to crop the image so I wouldn't loose any quality. I guess I have a little more to play around with the new camera, huh?
