I think Ron needs to be tagged 'canon's used car salesman'... Canon 30D BG_E2 Grip Rebel XT BG-E3 battery grip

Ron, If you want my opinion, save and get the 85L. for your clubbing and portrait work it will really shine. Dante

One of Canon's finest IMHO. I bet you find that you don't even want the f/1.2 once you've experienced the f/1.8. I agree... The 85 1.8 is great, both on a FF and a crop camera. An excellent and versatile lens. Canon EOS 5D, 20D

Next I'll post an almost identical shot where I got the focus out, but it means I can give an edge crop.

It really is a dynamite lens...the bokeh is very nice too...I was so shocked at the quality, for the price. In fact, I liked it so much on the 5D that I decided against the 85 1.2 that I was going to buy (gonna buy the 50 1.2 instead) and will just borrow the 1.8 (with his blessing) when I need it...it's really nice. Locked on focus faster than the 35 f2 and faster than the 50 1.4. It's minimum focus distance is abt 2ft (more than I'd like). But it's sharp and I didn't notice any vignetting. Again, I was really shocked at the photo quality...(and for a long time now, I've really REALLY wanted the 1.2, if that tells you anything) .. It's Permie's world, we just live in it! ~CDS

Well, Captain, I did (look at the corners)...that's what shocked me...the 5D has a tendency to have a lot of light fall off and there wasn't much at all w/the 85....much less compared to the 50 1.4. I admit that I assumed for the price it wouldn't measure up at all...I was wrong. And I was really shocked at how quickly it focused in low light...nice little lens (no wonder husband uses it all the time)... .. It's Permie's world, we just live in it! ~CDS
