This is adorable! You can totally do this in black and white... have a peek at this... I don't think the highlights are blown out... soooo cute! :) Hope you don't mind the edit.

Sponge Bob, what a fashion statement ;)

Very cute pic, both in color and in Kristy's b/w.

Funny you mentioned Sponge Bob... my 7-year old daughter noted the same "fashion statement" and wanted to know why they were all in their underwear. I have her a cute "mommy" answer....

What an adorable capture!

I really like the b/w version. This photo could come in handy when the kids are older... say high school ;)

I really like the B&W version. When I was trying to convert it I kept losing the island in the upper left. My wife is also very pleased with your work. And of course i do not mind the edit.

2 Samuel 9:7-8, "So David said to him, “Do not fear, for I will surely show you kindness for Jonathan your father’s sake, and will restore to you all the land of Saul your grandfather; and you shall eat bread at my table continually.” Then he bowed himself, and said, “What is your servant, that you should look upon such a dead dog as I?”

Thanks! I had to erase the island back in... All you have to do is duplicate the B&W layer before you do any adjustments of contrast or curves... then you can erase the original back in on the areas that get blown out when you bump the contrast. I use a large soft brush and reduce the opacity so the edges aren't noticable... I always add a color balance layer to my B&W because I like them a bit warm and I think the warm tone helps to bring out detail and softens some of the harsher highlights a bit.

Hope this helps a bit. :)
