Will the Sigma 10- and 17-mm lenses designed for APS-C cameras work on the 10D?
Like the 10-22, 17-70 etc?

Yep. The mounts work the same. You can actually use them like the Tokina 12-24 on full frame or a 1D series camera. It's just they vignette. Only the EF-S lens risk breaking the mirror.

New is good, Buy 30d. Clean ISO 800 images for some lenses is important. Also it got better AF system so more keepers ratio.

I own both 10D and 30D and when speed is not a problem and the light is good the 10D is still an extemely capable camera with build quality that makes 350D just feel like a toy - no comparison IMHO.

I would take a 350D or 400D over it, or atleast a 20D if your staying with the 2 digit D family.

10d and 20d user here, prefer the 10d myself, the xtra 2mp is not noticeable IMHO and OK you get higher ISO and a few other settings with the 20d BUT Canon played with the firm / soft ware on the 20d making the images softer, thay have since reverted on the 30d.

So for me it's either the 10d or 30d, I still use my 10d in preference to the 20d it's all down to personal taste BUT how often would you use the xtra's offered by the 20d or 30d ?????

As always if you must have the 30d then go for it, if it would just be nice to have then go for a 10d preferably for me or maybe a 20d at the right price:cool:

I get equally sharp images from my 20D as I do my 30D. I don't know where you heard this about the firware/software. If your 20D isn't as sharp as the 10D, you should send it in for calibration.

I let my son borrow my 10D while he's in college. I still see people using it all the time. It is not as "new" as far as technology goes. The new Xti for not much more is much more capable. But if you are a good photographer and know how to handle the settings, you're good. I'd say the 10D is like having an old regular SLR. You can still take great photos.

We have had a 10d since they came out - so long as you get one that has no focus issues (early ones were not always accurate in the focus department) then it is a superb camera.

IMO it is better made than the 20d/30d and certainly better than a 350d. It performs slower and has a smaller viewing screen on the back but as a 1st digital slr would be very good.

Ours gets used every day of the week for one of our clients who doesn't want pictures with huge file sizes. We have a 1DS II, 1D II and 5D yet continue to use the 10d without issues.

Ours has had a good bashing but continues on and on. The new models are better - build quality possibly apart - but they cost more than a 10d .... if you compare like with like i.e. 10d v 30d.

It's not specific to my 20d I have tested a few and my 10d has taken 85.000 images without a problem:cool:

I'm not saying the 10D is incapable of taking sharp photos... I'm saying that my (apparently special) 20D and 30D aren't appreciably different in image quality. And by this, I mean both my 20D and 30D are very good.

The 10D is the best bang for your buck right in the used market. Getting a camera that close in quality to a 30D besides speed, for $450 is such a great deal. I personally like the slightly more rugged feel of the 10d.

cool_dude07,
The 10D is a fine camera :)
I had sent my 5D in for some service and I was glad I still had my 10D. It was my first DSLR and I had many a good shoots with it :D You can always upgrade the body later if you want or need to.

Enjoy your new camera whatever model you get :)

If money is a concern, then get the 10D. It feels really good in your hands, and takes excellent photos too. I had the oppurtunity to shoot a wedding with one. And the shooting speed wasn't that bad. If you can fork the extra dough, I would get the 30D instead. The lcd screen on that is huge and very sharp. It's great for checking the focusing of your shoots. The 10D has a slow review time, especially when scrolling through a lot of pictures.

Whatever you do, DON'T GET THE XT (or XTi)! I hated mine, it felt like a cheap toy. Don't get me wrong, the photos were fine. But unless your hands are the size of a twelve year old girl's hands, it's going to be too small. I ended up selling it and going back to my 300D till I could afford to upgrade to the 30D. I guess small girls need cameras too, but it's not intended for male adults.

It's not small if you add the grip.
