Hi All

I've used my 60mm f/2.8 for people/portraits up to now but wondered if anyone has any experience of using the 70 - 200 f/4 for the same?

Pretty good , here too, one of my favorites for portrait. The isaolation power is very good as it is quite sharp.

Cheers

Conventional portraiture has found, thru time and experience with medium format and 35mm film portraiture, the optimal focal lengths for different types of portraits. 'Optimal' is a blend of good shooting distance for facial perspective that our eyes are accustomed to looking at someone, plus a shooting distance -- one that permits good photographer-subject interaction without discomfort for the subject of being too close, and which permits placement of artificial lights for formal portraiture.

Conventional portraiture lens focal lengths translate to 110mm at the long end for the APS-C format camera (same as doing a really tight headshot with 180mm on 35mm SLR). Of course, 'rules' can be broken.

It is a wonderful portrait lens - in fact I think candid portraiture is this lens' forte!

If you plan on using it indoors, you will need a flash as it blocks off the onboard one.

it is a wonderful lens for portraits. You just need to have enough room to back up becasue of the focal length.

One of my two most favourite lenses for portraiture... (everybody's favourite by the looks)...except mine's a f/2.8...a bit heavier to hold but it's better than going to the gym..

Thanks guys....some wonderful shots, advice and definitely made me a lot happier now!!!!!

I'm trying to persuade my financial advisor (she who must be obeyed) to let me take some of her this weekend but she hates having her picture taken. :)

Thanks again
