X-Drive II, Tripper, Super Digibin 2.0 PLEASE HELP!

I'm narrowing my search down for a portable storage device. If you have used one of the following items please let me know what you thought of them:

X-Drive II
Tripper
Super Digibin 2.0

I like the function of the Tripper and Super Digibin 2.0 better than the X-Drive II. I don't believe that the X-Drive II can tell you how much space is free on the hard drive. I also don't know if the X-Drive II can write to a memory card like the other two can. According to InsideComputer, the Super Digibin 2.0 is one of if not the fastest portable storage device out there for card to device speed. The Tripper is supposed to have the fastest device to PC speed.


So many choices!!!!!

Kanguru's Media Exchange 2.0 looks very similar in capability (and prices are essentially identical) to the Super DigiBin but the slots for other formats are built-in...

Isn't this like the 8th poll on this subject in the last two weeks?

How many of us can actually vote in good concience on a poll like this when most of us will have only used one of the products listed???

(that's why I can't vote,. I have no way to compare)

If we just vote what we own,. what use is that,. what if we all own the worst one? (like in 1990 when every one thought Makita made great cordless drills because thats what everyone owned... turned out Makita sucked,. just no one had even heard of the better brands..... yet )

I have finally signed up. I have been reading posts for months. So I'm new here and about 2 years on digital, and yes i do own digibin. It has worked flawlesly for me Wwent to england with a 512 and 256 card and digibin for two weeks and recorded some 5 to 7 hundred images without a hitch. I only wished the digibin had two additions. 1) is an lcd screen just to view and verify images(reisurance i guess) and 2) a longer battery life (though you do get a car and an ac adapter along with digibin. I did borrow a friends lap top while visiting just to check each days dumps but didn't need it just slept better. Since then I haven't felt like i needed to check on downloads and i havent misses an image. though you better look into a dvd burner for storage because 20 40 or 60 gig wont last forever and its not a good idea to store on a hard drive.

CyberDyneSystems...you are probably correct on the multiple listings. This is my third post on the subject. I really want to hear from the people who use the Tripper and the Super DigiBin 2.0 since they are on the top of my list now. I know this may be overkill, but I don't want to make a $300 mistake.

I think the Image Tank G2 is good and have been very happy with mine.

I have no experience with the others although I did look at a couple of them before I decided on the G2.

If the new 4GB Muvos at $199 do have a camera useable 4GB MD, I wonder if the need for tripper devices will decrease.

Seems if I had a couple of 4GB MD's on hand it would be much easier than carrying/using a backup device.

The thing thats kept me away from backup devices is the short built in battery life, and slow CF to device backup speeds. While a MD may be somewhat slower in the camera, having 8-12GB on hand is a great tradeoff.

My X-drive II takes around 16 mintues to transfer the 1G CF data. According to many comparision listed in the web, the SDB takes only 6-7 minutes . I am planning to replace the X-drive II by SDB (USB 2.0).

6 mins/GB sounds somewhat better, but if your using a 4GB MD thats still 24 minutes. I'd rather just buy a couple more 4GB MDs. Sure it costs more but you can just keep shooting until you get back to a laptop or PC.

Maybe for long hiking trips if you dont want to bring a laptop, the storage device would be useful, but you would need a couple of batteries too.

Things just keep changing, I cant believe that a camera now takes a 4GB storage card and for those of us shooting multishot RAW, its not enough!

If your using a 4GB card with the 10D/300D in RAW mode your looking at 475 pictures, but in multishot mode at 3 or 4 pics per subject were down to 125 shots or less.

I agree with you on both counts

1. The X-drive,. (which I have and love) was one of,. if not THE first tools of this nature,.. I am sure some of the newer units are faster and more flexible. For the cost the X-drive is hard to beat though. They have a third generation out now, X-drive "PRO".. it may stack up better to some of the newer units.

2. With a small handfull of 4 gig cards,. the X-drive I have will soon be relagated to long vacation trips alone. I will no longer feel the need to pack it in my bag for a long days hike.
