Gaudi in Barcelona

Took a bit of a wlak out this evning, my last here in Barcelona.

Found a few Gaudi buildings. It's awesome to see just how surreal and detailed the architecture is...

Excuse the bad quality of the shots here, having to cope with hand-holding with no IS.

Interesting architecture Pete, and photographically I like the door shot best due to you catching the person in frame as they walked past and looked up at the door. It is a shame about the crane in the first shots, but I can sympathise as there have been many times where I've seen buildings covered in scaffolding, or like Rosslyn Chapel near Edinburgh where the entire building is covered. All necessary to maintain the buildings of course, but frustrating when you're trying to take a picture.

Yeah.. And the fact that it was at night, and I only had my 50mm with me, I was screaming for more of a wide angle at times!!

The cranes are a neccessary evil there. I think they're repainting some sections of the Familia (one of those cranes was actually placed right on the top of the cathederal - amazing!!).

That place was started in 1882 and it took Gaudi the remaining 42 years of his life to build.

It's still not finished....

The Sagrada Familia is probably my favourite building. Amazing place and I love all his stuff in Barca. Went there several years ago specially to see them, but only had a P&S in those days. Maybe time for a revisit.

Very Highly recommended, especially the old quarter - realy nice old alleyways and shops/tapas bars etc. Loved my time out there, what little time I had to wander around, that is!

Nice shots Pete, I loved Barcelona when I was there in 2004 and had a great time exploring Gaudi's work whilst wandering.

As for the cranes, they're permanent for the time being. The cathedral is still under construction and will be until around 2026 (http://en.wikipedia.or​g/wiki/Sagrada_Familia) A fascinating place and the only "old style" cathedral anywhere in the world. Highly recommended if you can get over to see it as the architecture is breathtaking yet so fine as it's being built using the old ways (other than the cranes of course ).

Man ... I am so itchin' for a trip somewhere. Maybe I should do a lastminute Xmas jaunt. I usually hate those circular tour bus things but the Barca one was cool if anyone is short of time. Be good to see a Barcelona game too.

That building freaked me out when I was there (I mean, statues of fruit?!), and it freaks me out now.

I gotta get myself to Barcelona!
