ok ok I am going crazy, I never thought it would happen to me but here I am owning up to it. I need some advice from everyone, since I am going out of town I can't do anything stupid just yet so please everyone list what you think is a better set up.

I am gonna list 3 diffrent set ups, I have set up number one and I am not happy. So please list which set up (1-3) and if you have the time why. Thank you so much

setup # 1
Canon 24-105mm f4 L USM IS
Canon 70-200mm f4 L USM

setup # 2
Canon 70-200mm f4L USM
Canon 24-70mm f4L USM
Canon 50mm f1.8

setup #3
Canon 70-200 f2.8L USM
Canon 50mm f1.4 USM
Tamron 28-75 f2.8 XR Di LD Aspherical (IF) wide angle-tellephoto

What I shoot, I do studio work, off road racing, planning on a trip to europe, looking to photograph football and what not. Wanting to become a stringer for the local newspaper. I am looking for the best set up in your eyes.

The setup listed are how they would be baught (trade in) so please no mix and matching lol

Thank you everyone who takes a second to tell me what you think

edit....I have about $1.800ish to spend so thats what I have to work with

I find the combo of 50/1.8, 17-40/4 and 70-200/2.8 to be excellent for journo work. Modify that as you wish, but I'd go with the 2.8 on the tele at least.

You mention that you are not happy with your current set-up. Others might be better able to make an informed recommendation if we know what about the setup is unsatisfactory. Since setup #2 includes the 70-200 f/4, I assume it's not what makes you unhappy. It looks like you basically want to replace your f/4 mid-range zoom with an f/2.8 (assuming the the 24-70 listed in setup 2 is actually f/2.8, not f/4) and add a fast prime. Yet, I'm not sure the 70-200 f/4 would be suitable for the racing and football. If you need to use your 50 in your PJ work, the shortcomings of the f/1.8 - slow focus, lack of FTM - could be a hindrance.

So, with all that, my totally uneducated, novice opinion would be to get setup #3.

I'd do set 3, and replace the tamron with a 17-40 f4L.

there is no such thing as a 24-70 F4.

if i were you i would go with the 70-200 2.8 for sure. definitly if you want to try out football. then i would also agree on replacing the 28-75 with something a bit wider like the 17-50 2.8. ad the 50 1.4 for lowlight and you should be set for a while. also mabye a 1.4x TC for the 70-200.
