Hiya..

i tried about 2 months ago to be selected by shutterstock and to my surprise i was rejected. i did abit of research and after working in a imaging place for nearly 5 yrs and i know technically what good quality is from a camera all my pics got rejected due to too much noise or pixelation.

if you can get selected by them it could be a decent way to make money tho you would have to work at it. You need to make minium 70 bux us a month in order to get paid before you get anything. for some people it works.. for me it didnt...

i use them. i'm really lazy with uploading photos so my galleries pretty small - only got about $10 so far, in about 3 months? if you dont reach the minimum $75 monthly payout then it gets transferred to the next month. i suggest you spend a while browsing other peoples work before you submit anything to them. this (external link) is my gallery... not a lot there!

I use them and make a few $. You can make a little or a lot. Some people here will bash them big time, not them in particular but microstock as a whole. They are stricked as for what they except. You can post some shots in their forums for critique before uploading if you want. Noise is a real killer as well as lighting. Do a search here for ShutterStock and micro stock there have been numerous threads. Here is a link (external link)to their forums.

Question for you. You have an image of a lady standing in some foilage. Did you have a model release or does shutterstock not work that way. Any stock agency I have ever investigated requires one for all identifiable persons in an image. I have never tried one of thes that pays peanuts though.

My life is like one big RAW file....way too much post processing needed.

images of people/recognisable logos etc have to be submitted with a release, unless you submit them as editorial. they were submitted as editorial, as is the one of the london eye, in the latter case im not sure if its because the people are recognisable or if its because its a landmark...

Stu, the London Eye one would be editorial because it is a recognizable landmark. All recognizable people need model releases. Any thing with logos or trademarks can only be editorial. Some people there make hundreds of $ or more a month.

what shutterstock does not endorce is art.. they want technically perfect shots.
the thing i dont understand about shutterstock is that they say think about what GRAPHIC DESIGNERS want... they are the one who want arty shots most of the time.. not technically perfect shots in every way, ie/ noise, sharpness... i got a image rejected because it was blury, but in photography terms it was BOKEH.. a fine line to run down the shutterstock way of thinking...

ive seen some fantastic gallerys on shutterstock and then alot i have seen are standard point n shoot gallerys that are a load of crap..

im not bitter that i didnt get selected and understand they need a strict selection process but ive seen some perfectly fine images in their forum get rejected and people complaining.. i guess getting selected comes down to alot of things.
