My first self portrait. And I bet you can't guess how I lit it.

#1 is awesome.

Did you use a TV to provide the light?

Your PC monitor.

Aw, you ruined my fun Raymond :)
Spot on! Who would have thought a Samsung LCD could be used to light photographs?

You were sitting down on your leather office chair leaning back a little and use a self timer?

Mac. Next time you're at the computer store, or a mall with a Mac store go take a picture of yourself with the in computer camera, the screen will "flash!"

Great work Nick. No 1 is very good. From the large square catchlight in your eye I would guess it was either a monitor like Ray has said or maybe a TV.

EDIT=== Read the rest of the post next time Greg.

How did you know I have a leather office chair? I didn't even think to sit in the chair  That would've probably made getting the right focus easier too. I was actually kneeling.
Each time I leant over to press the remote release (using 10sec timer) then tried to get back into the position I had prefocused it at. Took at lot of attempts I can tell you.

Ha, thanks, Greg! I should've disguised the catchlight to make it harder.

Yeah, I was going to say monitor or TV probably just because I can see the reflection of something square in your eye.

Dang! The suspense was over before I even got to the thread. Cool lighting.

The first portrait is very strong (in a good way) :). The only thing that bothers me is the catchlight in the on the shadow side eye. I think the portrait would be better either without it or with it toned down as it detracts from the darkish mood.

All in all... very nice work.

Thanks again, Nathan! I'd seen myself in the mirror a while ago with the monitor light on my face and thought that could make an interesting shot. I've only just now bothered to do it.

I thought some people might think the catchlight was a softbox. There's no foolin' this POTN crowd.

Thanks, Steve! Appreciate the criticism. I did some burning and I can see what you mean. I don't think I liked it as much with the catchlight completely removed. But it did look a bit better with it darkened a little.
