I am concidering upgrading to the 5D.....are the following lenses good enough and can they be used on the 5D.......or am i crazy???

Tamron 28-75mm, 2.8 [great copy]
Canon 85mm, 1.8.... [never hardly use this as i find it too long for a fixed lense with the crop factor] i shoot mainly portraites
Canon 50mm, 1.8

my other option is the 30D

at the moment i am shooting with the 10D, but don't like to go above 400 ISO due to the noise factor..

Thanks for any input

Kelly

I've used all on a 5D with no complaints. Wide angle's now, that's another story :-)
The 5D exposes (pun intended) corner weakness in wide angle lenses.

All 3 lens will work fine on the 5D. the 85 1.8 that I resently upgraded to 1.2L II was a great Lens. your 28-70 will be a great zoom as well.

Indeed you will. The short-tele focal length is great for head and shoulders shots of adults.

The 85 will be a great lens for portraits on a 5D. The 50 will also be fine. I'll pass on comenting on the tamp^Hron as I've not used one.

The 5D is seriously tasty for portrait work. Can send you an example if you want, done with a 50 1.4. Just e-mail and I can send the preview of the full file.

BTW, the 5 is also increadably low noise.

You might want to pick up a Canon 28mm f/1.8, that would be a perfect wide(ish) angle for the 5D =)

Too much gear...

If money is not object, get the 5D and better lenses.

If money is a consideration, get better lenses before you even think about spending the money of a 5D. No matter how good a 5D is, it is no better than the lens.

When is money NOT an object??

which lenses would you suggest?

I concidered the 24-70L a while back but would have to say i am extreamly happy with the quality of my Tamron and had heard sooo many people say the L could have some focusing issues![I have 2 photos posted at the moment using my Tamron...1 in "people" the other in Critque corner"]

In good light... [I am a natural light photog] my 10D with any of these lenses gives me super sharp results.... but as soon as the light isn't as friendly & i bump up the ISO = hello noise

Any suggestions welcomed

Thanks
Kelly

And what would you class as better than the 85 1.8 or the 50 1.8? The 85 1.2L and 50 1.2L for only a little extra...

Those two lenses are not in the same ballpark. The 50 f/1.4 for one would be a significant improvement over the 50 f/1.8... obviously threre's no need to jump to the top end L's based on Scott's suggestion.

To be honest, i don't use the 50mm 1.8 at all....my Tamron hardly comes off my camera apart from the odd occasion when i need the 1.8 of the 85mm..
Either way i am ready to upgrade my camera and am happy with my Tamron on the 10D so i can only hope for better outcomes on a 5D or maybe a 30D..
Prep....i did email you:D

No problems...
The only thing that surprises me is that you hardly use the 85... It's a cracking lens especially for tight head shots on a 1.6 crop factor camera, and for head and shoulders if you have some shooting room...
