Yes, fine lenses. Still, better to ask before hand than after. I have a student coming out for private lessons next week with her new lens, a 28-135 IS. She said "As per your suggestion I got this one." Hmmm, my suggestion was to get something better than what she has now, not that particular lens. Guess I'll cross my fingers and hope she is happy with it so I don't have to tell her she maybe should have gotten something better.

i have both lens. the 28-135 used to be my walkaround lens...but 28 was not wide enough for me. and also, the two lens focal range overlap quite a bit.

so i got the sigma 17-70...and now have the focal range 17-200 covered with the 2 lens. the 17-70 has been a much better lens than the 28-135....it's smaller, lighter, wider, and IQ is better.

Hey Bill. where ya been? :D

I have the 28-135. It came used on an old D30 I bought at our local shop. It's a great lens overall, but mine needs to go in for some calibration as it's a little soft. Still fine for a walk around lens, which is what I want it for.

BTW, my 100-400L came back and WOW, did they fix any problems it use to have. They replaced the IS unit, cleaned and calibrated it too. Spot on now.

I used my 28-135 for over a year before getting the L lenses and the 20D. It is capable and wonderful for stretch, zoom is really useful, but I found that the 24-70 was much sharper. I am also liking my primes more for the sharpness. For the money, though the 70-200 f4 is a bargain. L quality at a decent price. I love mine. If you really want to make a comparison, find a 24-70L to rent. You'll see a big difference. The reach isn't as far, but the lens is much nicer for color, IMO.

The 70-200 f/4 is just about the best value top class lens Canon makes, IMO.

The 28-135 IS is a lens I would have loved for my film camera, but for a digital, starting at 28mm is not really wide enough to my tastes. i tend to shoot either wider or longer. But it is a good enough lens, and I'm sure you will be pleased with it.
