Do you mean focus speed, or light gathering speed?

Travis

The Sigma is one stop faster than the Canon. The Canon is smaller and lighter than the Sigma. Both are excellant lenses. Depends on what's more important to you.

probably light gathering speed. I like to take photos at night. (you will probably say the 2.8) but as far as durablity, picture quality and overall how its made. I dont mind spending the $ for the L f/2.4 but just seeing if i can go easy on the wallet for once. lol

the build on the sigma is GREAT..its built like a tank and the IQ is great. I sold my 70-200 f4 to get the sigma and I am happy with the change

if you can swing it get the Sigma. Anyone can always benefit from an extra stop. But it is heavier tho. Then again, it comes with a tripod collar.

I had the F4 and sold it to buy the Sigma for evening wildlife shooting. Love it

I had the Canon and also sold it for the Sigma. I preferred the Sigma speed but the Canon weight, as has been said already above!

Unless weight is a major issue, go with f2.8.

I traded down from the Sigma to the f4L+cash. I won't need 2.8 again until Spring, and by then I'll get the 2.8L. Personally, I like the heavier feel and better build of the sigma, but I find USM to be slightly superior to HSM.

The Sigma is heavy, but I am a wimp and I can hand hold it. Plus, the tripod collar comes standard with it. It is an absoulete, phenomenal lense. It has great IQ and from what I can tell, is well built. I am definitley happy I ended up with the Sigma.
