Pardon my language, but I need a way to remember to put the damnable card back in the reader or to leave the camera in such a way that I don't walk off with the camera without the card!

Restrictions:
I don't like using my camera as a CF reader.
I don't like leaving the CF door open (because I'm gonna break it off and because I dont' want dust in the chamber)

Any suggestions?

Join the friggin club. I went to the cn tower a few weeks back for the first time even though I live in Toronto cause I wanted to see it and because I wanted to do some photography. I packed everything, my tripod, etc. I get there, take camera out all excited, and bam, I forgot my cf card in the reader. I was smacking myself and very very upset. To this day I am still angry about it and it was only a few weeks ago. I have a crap memory so I'm going to buy a couple extra cards to keep in my bag, should come in handy when shooting sports and raw anyway.

As soon as you have copied the photos put the card back in the camera. My guess is you forget it because you start working on the photos once copied to the pc.

Just put the card back in the camera as soon as the pictures are downloaded. Don't start sorting or ratign your images, put the card back. Oh yeah, BUY ANOTHER ONE!;) With all the moeny you have spent on gear you only have one card?

Buy another card, even a cheapo - although another one exactly the same is best.

Then rather than remove the card, get into the habit of changing it for the other one. I do this - if a card comes out of my camera, another goes in straight away.

If in doubt, I shut up...

Yes, I have two of the 2-Gig cards. I really should swap them when I'm downloading at home. At work, I need to put the card back as soon as I'm done downloading. I keep a couple of much lower capacity cards in my briefcase and office desk. I'm going to have to try keeping one in my wallet. It'd be just like high school. Except instead of a circular dent in my wallet, I'm going to have a rectangular one. ;)

Those are some good suggestions Richard. Personally I do both... I make sure that I always replace the card in the camera when I take it out (whether it's full, or I am copying images) and I always make sure to keep an older (1 GB) card in each of my camera bags, just in case.

Thanks for the reminder! Mine was still stuck in the card reader from my shoot this morning! I do this ALL the time!

I do that all the time.. fortunately I have a few cards to choose from... my biggest bad habit is not clearing off cards.. so i'll be twenty or so shots into a new day when I realize yesterdays photos were still on the card....

I keep 3 CF card attached to the camera strap at all time so even if I leave a CF in the reader I still have 3 CF to use. There is 2 more smaller CF in the bag as well.

I sew a 2GB CF Card in the pocket of every pair of pants I own. They are my emergency backup cards for when I leave mine in the card reader in my computer.
