Really? You know best I guess cause I've never sewed a thing in my life, but if the fabric stays on shouldn't it be okay?

Buy another card, even a cheapo - although another one exactly the same is best.

Then rather than remove the card, get into the habit of changing it for the other one. I do this - if a card comes out of my camera, another goes in straight away.

yup:) thats what i do, as long as theres always a card in the camera you wont get caught out.

I can't sew for the life of it, but I would never sew a CF into my pants! I've never heard of this before... I'd be too worried to forget it in my pants and then throw everything into the wash, and lose all the shots.:(

Maybe it'd just clean the noise out of the shots.

I always leave the camera with the CF door open next to the pc until the card is put back in. I don't think dust would be a major issue as you could always remove it and it usually only for an hour or less and I've never gone cardless (touch wood!)

I found the following works for me in that I've never forgotten any equipment or left the camera on the wrong ISO.

Night before
Put the lens I'm planning on use in to the bag
Turn on the camera rest the ISO to 100
Format all cards in the camera, leaving the last one in the camera
load everything into the bag and close it.
Take total of about 10 mins
Then the next morning I just grab the bag and go.

Routine helps a lot...

When you take your lans cap off, if goes right into your left pocket

When you've done with your CF card, put it right back in the camera and put the camera back in the bag.

I like your title, Pete. I have a routine with my lens caps as well and I have not lost one yet! YEH! But I do have a habit of leaving the CF card in the computer as well. But not being a professional and working off 2-3 cards at a time, things can get pretty messy on my desk. I've learned my lesson and the 20D is set to not shoot without a card. Makes life a lot less complicated unless you're already at the location and you don't have a card and you know you don't. :)

Okay okay so I was joking. ;) But seriously I have put a CF card through the wash. Still work as good as the day I got it. My USB flash drive has been through the wash too. Still works fine! I wouldn't recommend doing it often. :p Needless to say I should really check my pockets better before doing laundry.

Pardon my language, but I need a way to remember to put the damnable card back in the reader or to leave the camera in such a way that I don't walk off with the camera without the card!

Restrictions:
I don't like using my camera as a CF reader.
I don't like leaving the CF door open (because I'm gonna break it off and because I dont' want dust in the chamber)

Any suggestions?

Yes. Turn your camera on and do a quick check before you leave. If you have no CF card, the LCD screen will tell you. Quite simple.
