I know this may seem like a dumb question to most of you, but I really don't know. I read posts saying there's noise on pictures, then someone comes and fixes it, and I still didn't get it. Anyone mind explaining to me? Thanks

colored or white speckles, grain, etc. Makes for a "noisy" picture. Take a shot at ISO 100. Then take a shot at ISO 1600. zoom in a bit, and note the difference. The difference is the amount of "noise".

Hope you can see the difference in this photo. Left side at ISO 1600, right side ISO 100.

Photo is untouched in PP except white balance correction. Magnified to 300%.

Or better yet, take any P/S camera, the fancier, the better, and take a pic at the highest ISO possible with poor lighting. I loved my old Nikon 8700 and at ISO 100 or below it took fabulous pics. But crank it to 400 and it looked like a sand painting.

300% is extreme and introduces other issues like pixelation. 100% views are plenty big to see noise.

Noise: Hubby snoring on the couch while you try to watch tv? Noo... OK :D

You'll notice most ISO noise in shadow areas, if you shoot in low light at high ISO the noise will be more prominent than if you were to shoot in good light (say daylight outdoors) with little shadowy areas with the same ISO.

Even with low ISO you can see noise in shadowy areas, especially if you'fe underexposed your image.
