Canon 50mm 1.8 Questions

Ok... I have a Canon 300D, 20D on the way.. and I just got my 50mm 1.8 lens, now for my question.

I have taken a few pics free hand, on apeture priority and aperture at 1.8.

The photo's do not appear as crisp and clear as I like, any ideas? I have it set on a single focal point but even that does not seem as crisp as I like.

Any tips, help, suggestions, ideas greatly appreciated.

post a sample? not sure if you are referring to the photo being out of focus, or that the lens is not sharp at 1.8 -- stopping down may improve the latter.

Were you shooting in low light? The 50mm 1.8 is known for having subpar autofocus in low light. The autofocus in this lens isnt that spectacular, but for $75 what could you expect.

It was just a few hours ago and it was getting dark.. And I will post one...

Looks pretty goot to me. What exactly is the issue? If you are refering to her right shoulder and side being soft, I think it's an issue of shallow depth of field. What App were you using?

looks okay to me. just shallow depth of field due to its being wide open. if you stop down a stop will increase the dof. -alex

at f/1.8 what do you expect?

you would need to shoot at around f/4 to have sharp object on what you were focusing on

and a little bit of PP will make a huge difference IMHO

Agree, A nice S-shaped curve to increase contrast and some sharpening would really make the image pop.

I'm finding that my 50mm f/1.8 performs best from f/2.8 going down to about f/8, even f/11.

I had a fiddle with the levels in PS, does that look any better?

looks ok to me. Don't be surprised if lenses are not "Tack" sharp wide open, especially if shot in RAW.

a lot better...

I will try again when my new 20D gets here...
