I tried using a flash (in the hot shoe, not on camera) for the first time on my 20D

The accessory flash is soooo much better than the onboard flash. Either a 430 or 580 is almost a neccesity as far as I'm concerned :)

And if you want to make the flash better, look into a diffuser. I went with the Lumiquest Promax System and it worked perfectly.
